Alex was first elected to Derbyshire County Council in May 2017 and served on the Council's Cabinet for 8 years. Alex took over the leadership of the Conservative Group in May 2025. He has also been a North East Derbyshire District Councillor since 2015 serving as Leader of the Council for a period until 2023.
