Petersham - Garry Hickton

Garry has lived in the area all of his life, attending Sawley Junior and Long Eaton School. His son attended Wilsthorpe School, and his parents and extended family have all lived in Long Eaton.

Having been an Erewash Borough Councillor for 22 years, Garry understands the important issues that local residents face and the wants and needs of the community. It was with this in mind that in 2017 when he was elected to the County Council that I sought funding for local charities.

Garry was very proud to obtain funding to the tune of over £41,000 towards the running and set up costs of many local voluntary groups that have helped many vulnerable people and families

In addition to this, he has managed to find the funding for the defibrillator located on Canal Street.

The Government hands the running of many budgets and services over to the local Councils , such as Derbyshire County Council and Erewash Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council takes care of Schools , Education , Highways , Transport, Social Care and Young People. All these area are vital to Long Eaton.

If reelected, Garry will:

Continue to work closely with partners to bring about the regeneration of the high street and promote the ShopAppy scheme, that allows local businesses to attract new customers within Long Eaton.

Continue to help local charities with funding and voluntary work.

Encourage Derbyshire County Council to further invest in our roads, pavements and improve the traffic flow in Long Eaton

Protect our front line services and the Long Eaton Library.

Continue to lobby the Highways agency and Derbyshire County Council to clear up and maintain the A52/M1 Bostocks Lane Roundabout, this is a gateway to Long Eaton and needs to be kept tidy.

Encourage the increase of Electric Charging Points in Long Eaton.

Campaign for better Police resources to help tackle Anti-Social Behaviour.

Helping people has always played a big part in Garry's life and not only has he participated in charity funding events, such as the Half Marathon where he raised £7,500 for Make a Wish, the children’s charity, he is also actively involved in local volunteer work. Garry is a member of Long Eaton Mess collectors, helping to keep the streets and parks of Long Eaton and Petersham tidy, helping at Christmas with the Toy Collection and Chairing the Long Eaton Air Cadets Civilian Committee to name just a few.

Garry has had an excellent response to his positive campaign from residents in Petersham /Long Eaton. He sincerely hopes that he can count on your support and allow him to continue to be your voice for the Petersham Division at Derbyshire County Council.
