Linda Chilton - Melbourne Division
LINDA CHILTON has lived in the Melbourne Division for 29 years and has felt privileged to have represented it since 2013.
Sadly widowed during her tenure, she is a mother and grandmother, travelled extensively and holds a BA(Hons) in Business Administration.
Linda is involved with many local groups and organisations. A school governor at Melbourne Junior School with special responsibility for Safeguarding Children, a Vice President of the Melbourne Rugby Football Club, Treasurer for the East Midlands Conservative Women's Organisation, Member of the Melbourne Civic Society and a substitute member of the Local Government Association’s Wellbeing Board. Linda served as Chairman of Derbyshire County Council for the 2017/18 civic year and currently sits on the council's Audit and Improvement & Scrutiny People committees. She has also been a member of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Authority since June 2018.
Linda regularly attends the seven Parish Council monthly meetings within her division, and works to ensure a fairer deal for her residents.
- Promoting the interests of, and care in, the whole community within the area
- Monitoring the standards of education and schooling for local children
- Protecting Universal County Services for our area despite increased budget pressures
- Keeping up pressure on action for a new river crossing to replace the Swarkestone Causeway – presently, the main route through to Swadlincote.
